    Default Chlorination and staining

Is there any difference in how readily latex will pick up a stain depending on whether it is chlorinated or not? My thinking is that just as gluing is more difficult because the chlorine has already bonded, perhaps staining would also be discouraged. Has anyone tested this? If chlorination does protect against staining, it seems like it could make an important difference for white latex especially.

    Hi Naj,

    Welcome to Rubberist.net!

In answer to your question, unfortunately chlorination does not prevent staining from metals like copper. Whilst my experiments have been limited to metal staining I can assume with some conviction that other substances which normally stain latex will have the same effect on chlorinated latex too.

Thank you! That's a pity, but not entirely unexpected- it did occur to me that if it were the case, surely someone would have mentioned it as a benefit of chlorination. Oh well!
