Radical Rubber will be sponsoring a series of latex workshops being organised by the resourceful Kim of Club RUB to introduce keen latex fans to the art of making their very own latex items. The course will take you through the basics of cutting out latex pieces, gluing and finishing seams, what tools and what glue to use. Radical Rubber will be supplying the workshops with latex sheeting and trims in a array of their fantastic colours. I emailed as soon as I received the email, friday or saturday and haven't had any response, I also noticed that there was no mention of it on the club rub website either! Hopefully I'll hear back something soon about it.

I notice they used On the Rocks, 46 Kingsland Road last weekend, which is Hoxton - I wonder if they'd know, as Hoxton's only really a fistful of streets? However, there also used to be a craft centre somewhere near, and I don't remember where.

Learn How to Cut & Construct Latex Clothes
During the course you will make an apron and (if time) a top or dress.
The course does not teach pattern cutting.

Workshop at Basing House formerly On The Rocks:

The course is four hours. Arrive at 9.30 for 9.45 am.
(Subject to interest another course may be scheduled for 2.15 pm)

The course is £130 and includes a mini kit with all the tools you need for the lesson.

If you bring your own tools it will be £100 but it MUST include:

• Tape measure
• Ruler (preferably metal)
• Scissors – medium size
• Rotary cutters
• Soft clothes
• Spatula – Perspex (like credit card) that can be cut to size
• Two x glass jars for glue and thinners
• Talcum powder
• Roller for the seams
• Tweezers
• Safety pin
• Pencil
• Gel pen (can only be ‘Gel’ - one black and one white)
  

There are two methods of payment – cash and credit card.

• £50 cash deposit payable on the door at Club RUB which includes a FREE entry to Club RUB on October 16th to the Rubber Awards (ONLY). With the £80/50 remaining to be paid in cash on the October 23rd at the workshop.

• BTW if you want to secure your place with cash but can’t want to come to Club RUB just email me and we can arrange to meet.

Unfortunately she didn't advise whether there will be any more classes as I am not sure if I can make the 23rd.

I know the chap who will be teaching this course. Used to work for one of the big London manufacturers and I've referred to him for latex clothes making advice in the past. The price does not seem to be too much if one gets a lot of the equipment and four hours of class. Price seems to be on par with similar format cooking classes I've seen and if you get in for free to the Club Rub the week before than that ain't bad either.

I am intrigued by the implication that the credit card technique of applying glue will be used. Perhaps I'm not very good at it but it always seems to be a messy and wasteful way to apply glue for me.
